Why is it important to maintain my Stormwater Basins?
Stormwater Basins or “Ponds”, are designed to capture stormwater runoff water and hold a specific volume of water for a specific period of time. The volume and time of holding varies greatly depending upon the type of facility which was originally installed on a specific site. The problem which occurs through lack of maintenance on this facilities is this. Over time the facility will change its ability to function due to sediment build up, vegetation growth, and slope destabilization. These common problems will change the amount of water which is held by the basin and the amount of water which is released from it. Thereby undermining the original purpose of it.
